Friend or Foe?
Do you ever feel like you have to perform to get peoples attention and approval? And if you aren't good enough or funny enough or whatever it is that you feel they want you to be, they loose interest in you.
What is it that makes us want the approval of others so badly that we would compromise who we really are?
This makes me ask the question "What makes a true friend?"
To me, a true friend is someone that doesn't require you to be something that you are not, while at the same time, challenging you to be better. Someone that loves you even with your flaws, someone who makes time for you, who is there for you when you need them, to laugh, cry, tease, vent, explore. As Spongebob puts it, a Bubble Buddy.
Everyone needs such a friend. Be one.

It becomes a security to try to appeal to other people's interests. It seems easier to adjust what we like to meet others' likes, than to have others change to what we like.
A true friend is someone who doesn't have to perform or act in a way that he/she isn't just so people would like them. A true friend also is someone who likes others when they are not acting like something they're not. Because either way, you're not getting the real person. Whew!
be your own bear! do your own thing, thing. that's from the jungle jam show. taught me all the character stuff i know. :)
