Here we all are, Penny, Ethen, Me, and Leslie

A view of our hotel from the ground.
The story begins:
It's seven a.m. on Saturday the 8th of April.
An alien noise has awoken me from my fitful slumber, I try to tune it out but it persists. I roll over and bump into a lifeless body, I recoil in horror. Where am I? Who is this? What's going on here? Then it all comes back to me in an instant. Detroit, Leslie, Ethen's cry...I need some coffee.
I crawl out of bed and fumble around for my things. I manage to grope my way through the darkness to the door and out, out into the blazing lights of the hallway. After my temporary blindness subsides I see the elevators. I focus on the doors and take my first wobbly step. Victory.
This isn't so bad, I can do this.
I think someone said "Good morning" but I can't be sure. They were, perhaps, a little too chipper to be human, if you know what I mean. I take the elevator to the third floor and step out. Little did I know, that was to be the beginning of an adventure I would never forget.
I take a left and go over the bridge, then a right and across a catwalk, then a left over another bridge and around a couple of corners until I see an escalator. I take it the second level, and go to the right after crossing yet another bridge. I come to a balcony and I can see the Starbucks, only, it's seperated from me by a chasm of unequaled proportions and the only visible entry is a bridge that is yet another floor down. I briefly consider my options. (a.) backup, run and jump (b.)scream for help (c.) call Starbucks and ask for directions (d.) continue to look for the entry point on my own. I decide that option (d.) is the most logical because first, I don't feel like going to the hospital this early in the morning, secondly, there was no one around to hear my screams and lastly, I don't see a phone. It takes five more minutes and countless more catwalks, bridges and corners before I finally make it to level one and the Starbucks. The shop is strangely dark but I see a worker and inquire about my much needed java jolt. He has the nerve to tell me they don't open 'till seven. HelllllllO! It's gotta be like seven thirty by now, right? The clocks in our room are incorrect. I have a twenty five minute wait for my joe. So, I decide to curl up in the chair on a pod (see second pic below)because I now have too much time and energy involved to turn back now. I pull out my Bible and call Chris. (I guess I could've called Starbucks) So, we have a pleasant little devotion and my attitude is better, I feel happy now. It's seven o'two and I'm turning around to finally get my coffee...my mouth falls to the floor, twenty-five people! I counted twenty-five people in line. I only had my back turned for a couple of minutes. Forget it. I stopped caring. I never got my mocha. Dejected I walk out of starbucks, turn the corner, get on the elevator, get off on floor 31 and...wait a minute...no, that can't be. I don't believe it. Yup, it's true. The elevator does go to level one and the Starbucks is only ten feet from the doors. I don't think Detroit likes me and that's O.K. I'm not it's biggest fan either. I didn't really want coffee anyway.

A sideways view of the catwalks, kinda how I felt.

A pod, or at least, that's what I called them. They overlook the hotels catwalk system and are about forty feet above the ground and about the same from the ceilings. A great place to hang out, literally
